Curriculum

Il Prof. Massimo Villari   Professore Ordinario di Informatica (SSD INF-01) presso l’Universit  di

Messina (Italia). Lavora attivamente come analista della sicurezza IT e dei sistemi distribuiti nel cloud

computing, virtualizzazione e archiviazione ed   uno dei creatori del nuovo paradigma dell’Osmotic

Computing. Presso la stessa universit  insegna Cyber Security e Advanced Algorithms and

Computational Models nel corso interclasse Magistrale tenuto in Inglese di Engineering and

Computer Science (ECS in UNIME). Insegna inoltre Database e Programmazione nel corso Triennale

di Computer Science (Informatica). Per i progetti UE “RESERVOIR” ha guidato le attivit  di sicurezza

IT dell'intero progetto. Per il progetto UE “VISION-CLOUD” e H2020-BEACON, ha ricoperto il ruolo

di progettista architettonico per UniME.   stato responsabile delle ICT scientifiche nella frontiera

del progetto UE, l'acceleratore di FIWARE su Smart Cities - Smart Mobility.   fortemente coinvolto

nelle future iniziative Internet dell'UE, in particolare Cloud Computing e sicurezza nei sistemi

distribuiti.   coautore di oltre 250 pubblicazioni scientifiche e brevetti in Cloud Computing (Cloud

Federation), Sistemi distribuiti, Rete wireless, Sicurezza di rete, Cloud Security e Cloud-Edge e IoTs,

Data Science e AI, e recentemente in Osmotic Computing (da SCOPUS: 3448 citazioni e Indice H pari

a 28; da Google Scholar: 5885 citazioni e Index H pari a 40) .   stato presidente generale di ESOCC

2015 e IEEE-ISCC 2016. Dal 2011   membro di IARIA, riconosciuto come esperto di cloud computing,

e dal 2011   anche coinvolto nelle attivit  della FIArch, il gruppo di lavoro dell'UE su Internet futuro

Architettura. Nel 2014   stato riconosciuto da una valutazione indipendente (IEEE Cloud Computing

Transaction, Issue aprile 2014) come uno dei ricercatori scientifici attivi a livello mondiale, tra le

prime 27 classifiche, nell'area del cloud computing.   stato presidente generale dell'IEEE-ICFEC 2019

e copresidente di laboratorio dell'IEEE-CIC 2018. Sar  General Chair dell'IEEE CCGRID nel 2022 a

Messina (Sicilia). Attualmente   a capo della Scuola di Informatica dell’Universit  di Messina e ha

recentemente istituito all’interno del corso triennale in Computer Science un curriculum su Data

Analysis in inglese. Dall’Aprile 2019   delegato del Rettore sull’ICT per l'intera Universit  di Messina

e dal novembre 2019   referente per il Comune di Messina per le iniziative sulle Smart City e Data

Science mirate alla Digitalizzazione dei Processi della Pubblica Amministrazione.

Curriculum

Prof. Massimo Villari is Full Professor in Computer Science at University of Messina (Italy).
He is actively working as IT Security and Distributed Systems Analyst in Cloud Computing, virtualization and Storage and one of the creators of Osmotic Computing Paradigm.

For the EU Projects “RESERVOIR” he leaded the IT security activities of the whole project.
For the EU Project “VISION-CLOUD”and H2020-BEACON, he covered the role of architectural designer for UniME. He was Scientific ICT Responsible in the EU Project frontierCities, the Accelerator of FIWARE on Smart Cities – Smart Mobility. He is strongly involved in EU Future Internet initiatives, specifically Cloud Computing and Security in Distributed Systems. He is co-author of more of 190 scientific publications and patents in Cloud Computing (Cloud Federation), Distributed Systems, Wireless Network, Network Security, Cloud Security and Cloud and IoTs, and recently in Osmotic Computing.

He was General Chair of ESOCC 2015 and IEEE-ISCC 2016. Since 2011 he is a Fellow of IARIA, recognized as a Cloud Computing Expert, and since 2011 he is also involved in the activities of the FIArch, the EU Working Group on Future Internet Architecture. In 2014 was recognized by an independent assessment (IEEE Cloud Computing Transaction, Issue April 2014) as one of World-Wide active scientific researchers, top 27 classification, in Cloud Computing Area. He is General Chair of IEEE-ICFEC 2019 and Workshop Co-Chair in IEEE-CIC 2018. He will be General Chair of IEEE CCGRID in 2021 in Messina(Sicily). Currently he is the Head of Computer Science School and Rector delegate on ICT for whole University of Messina. He also covers the role of academic consultant for the City Council of Messina in the context of Smart City.
