Take a dive into Italian. The Italian for Foreigners school at the University of Messina, Sicily, has been offering since the year 2017 a program including 1, 2, 3, 6 week courses from beginner (A1) to post-intermediate (B2) levels.

The aim of the courses is combining high quality education and first-hand experience of the Italian way of life.

Students of Italian and of Languages related majors (e. g. Translation, Linguistics, Cultural studies) will take advantage of their stay in Italy. People who are not studying Italian, yet love Italian Language, Art and History, Opera, Cuisine and the southern, relaxed, eye on life, will also benefit from the experience of diving into the real thing, along with a high-profile, full-immersion language course.

Classes are held in a facility of the University of Messina (venue:  DICAM-School of Ancient and Modern Civilizations), overlooking the Strait and connected to the city center (10 minutes) and the beaches (5 minutes) with buses.

Excursions (optional) have been devised to give you the chance to experience Italian leisure time with a Sicilian twist.

Courses options

One-week Summer School in Italian Language and Culture (beginning on the third week of July; 25 hours of tuition; 2 ECTS);

Two-week Summer School in Italian Language and Culture (beginning on the third week of  July; 50 hours of tuition; 4 ECTS);

Three-week Italian Language and Culture Course (beginning on the third week of September; 75 hours of tuition; 6 ECTS);

Six-week Italian Language and Culture Course (beginning on the third week of  September; 150 hours of tuition; 12 ECTS).

Since the Italian for Foreigners School in Messina is a PLIDA Certificate center, all the courses will provide for the skills required to achieve the PLIDA Certificate, the official certificate of proficiency of Italian as a foreign language. Students can sit for the PLIDA exams in any of the PLIDA centers in the world (see schedule at plida.it).

All courses are:

Full-immersion and provide for 2 levels: CEFR A1-A2 and CEFR B1-B2.

Focused on Italian Language and Culture (Art, History, Literature, Opera, Cinema, Cuisine, Social issues), combining oral and written skills.

A minimum enrolment of 5 students is required to cover course costs. The maximum enrolment per course is 20 students.

In the case of non-activation the University will request an IBAN code linked to the personal bank account of the enrolled person to reimburse the fees paid.

Fees for all courses include enrolment, tuition fees, on-campus accommodation and access to the campus sports center. Fees do not include meals, excursions and PLIDA exams. Students can use the campus cafeteria for their meals.

The application deadline is 5 weeks before the beginning of the courses.

La scuola di italiano per stranieri di Messina, Sicilia, organizza dal 2017 un programma con l’obiettivo di combinare in-segnamento di alto livello e un’esperienza dal vivo dello stile di vita italiano.
I corsi offerti completano il curriculum degli studenti che frequentano corsi di italiano, lingue straniere e argomenti affini (traduzione, linguistica, culture e tradizioni).
Chi non studia italiano, ma ama la lingua di Dante, l’arte, la storia, l’opera, la cucina del Bel Paese e il modo di fare rilassato tipico del Sud potrà comunque godere di questo tuffo nella realtà, insieme a un corso di lingua full-immersion di alto livello.
Le lezioni si tengono in un edificio dell’Università di Messina, affacciato sullo Stretto e collegato tramite bus al centro città (10 minuti) e alle spiagge (5 minuti).
Alcune escursioni (a scelta) sono state studiate per farvi vivere il tempo libero all’italiana, con un tocco di sicilianità.
 
Corsi:
Summer School da 1/2 settimane in lingua e cultura italiana (dalla terza settimana di luglio; 25/50 ore di lezione; 2/4 CFU);
 
Corso da 3/6 settimane di lingua e cultura italiana (dalla terza settimana di settembre; 75/150 ore di lezione; 6/12 CFU);
 
La scuola di italiano per stranieri di Messina è un centro certificatore PLIDA, quindi tutti i corsi consentono di accedere all’esame per il certificato PLIDA (certificato ufficiale di conoscenza della lingua italiana). L’esame si può sostenere in qualunque sede del PLIDA nel mondo (sedi e calendario nel sito plida.it).
 
 
Tutti i corsi sono:
• Full-immersion e organizzati per 2 livelli: QCER A1-A2 and QCER B1-B2.
• Centrati sulla lingua e la cultura italiane (arte, storia, letteratura, opera, cinema, cucina, questioni sociali), con attenzione alle abilità dello scritto e del parlato.

I costi per tutti i corsi includono l’iscrizione, le lezioni, l’alloggio nel campus e l’accesso al centro sportivo del campus.
I costi non includono il vitto, le escursioni, gli esami PLIDA e quanto non espressamente indicato.
Gli studenti della scuola possono usufruire della mensa del campus.
 
I corsi saranno attivati al raggiungimento di un minimo di5 iscritti. Il numero massimo di iscritti per livello è di 20.
Nel caso di mancata attivazione del corso, l’Università richiederà un codice IBAN agli aspiranti studenti che avessero già versato la quota di iscrizione per rimborsare la quota.
 
Il termine per l’iscrizione ai corsi è 5 settimane prima dell’inizio previsto.
