Research activity of Marina Russo is primarily focused on the development of HPLC analytical methods for the characterization and isolation of nutraceuticals in functional foods.
The main topics of research are:
- Development of conventional, fast and multidimensional HPLC analytical systems for the characterization of chiral and non-chiral oxygen heterocyclic compounds (coumarins, psoralens and polymethoxyflavones) in cold-pressed Citrus essential oils and foodstuffs.
- Isolation and purification of flavones, flavanones and limonoids from by-products and processing of agro-food Citrus industry using a multidimensional HPLC preparative system coupled with a single quadrupole mass spectrometer detector.
- Use of a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer detector coupled with both mono- and multidimensional LC systems for the characterization of nutraceuticals in functional foods.
- Development of on-line extraction techniques coupled with LC system for the simultaneous extraction and analysis of bioactive compounds in vegetables.
