Curriculum

Luigia Puccio was born in 1952. In 1975 she received the laurea degree in Mathematics at the University of Messina, grade 110/110 cum laude. From 1976 to 1978 C.N.R. research grant. In 1980 (legal role) and in 1982 (executive role) she became a researcher in Numerical Analysis and from 2001 she is associate professor of Numerical Analysis of the University of Messina. She currently works at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. 2012/2016 she is elected member of the Academic Senate, as rapresentative of the scientific-disciplinary field Mathematics and Computer Science. Since December 2015 Coordinator of the degree course in Computer Science. Since 2010 she is the director of "Percorso di Eccellenza per le Scienze (PES)" of Facolty of Science of the University of Messina, http://ww2.unime.it/scienzePES. She was the research director of the Numerical Analysis group, and advisor of some C.N.R. and post-doctoral grant fellows. She has been responsible of several Italian C.N.R. and MURST research projects. She has been also involved in the C.N.R. Italy-France bilateral project no. 96.00178.CT01 "Parallel algorithms for signal and image processing by means of wavelets and frames". She is a member of SIAM and SIMAI (Italian Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics), where she was in the Council of Directors (2001-2012). Since 1982 she is either a member of "Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti", http://www.accademiapeloritana.it. She was in the Council of Directors of "Seminario Matematico" of the University of Messina (1994-2010). She was member of the Scientific Committee of the Seismological Observatory of Messina University (2005-2012). She was among the organizers of the "International Conference on Wavelets: Theory, Algorithms, and Applications", Taormina, 1993, and of the Fourth National Congress of SIMAI, Giardini Naxos, 1998, where she was also a member of the Scientific Committee, of Minisymposium "Image processing: linear and nonlinear techniques", 11th ECMI (European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry) Conference", Torre Normanna (PA), 2000, organized with Massimo Mancuso of ST-Microelettronics di Catania. She was a member of the Scientific Committee of VI SIMAI Congress, Chia Laguna (CA), 2002 and of VII SIMAI Congress, Venezia, 2004. She was President of Organizing Committee and a member of the Scientific Committee of the VIII SIMAI Congress , Baia Samuele (Ragusa), 2006. She organized with G. Iovane (Salerno University) the Minisymposium "Numerical Methods for Multidimensional Image Analysis" In: ECS10 - The 10th European Congress of Stereology and Image Analysis, Milan, 2009. She was President of the Organizing Committee of the Applied Mathematics School "MESMA 2010 - Propagazione di onde sismiche in mezzi eterogenei e dissipativi: formulazione matematica, metodi numerici e implementazione di algoritmi paralleli", Messina, 2010. She was member of the Organizing Committee of the X SIMAI Congress, Cagliari 2010 and of the XI SIMAI Congress, Turin 2012. She is member of the Organizing Committee with Mira Bozzini (Universita' di Milano-Bicocca), Carl de Boor (University of Wisconsin–Madison, USA) and Elisa Francomano (Palermo University) of the Workshop “Multivariate Approximation and Iterpolation with Applications”, Erice (TP) 25-30 september, 2013, within the “International School of Mathematics - Guido Stampacchia”. In 2002 she has been designated by MAP (Ministero per le Attività Produttive) as expert referee in the evaluation of PIA Innovazione projects within PON "Sviluppo Imprenditoria Locale". From 2006 she is Editor in Chief of on-line journal "Communications to SIMAI Congress" ISSN: 1827-9015, http://csc.simai.eu; she is in the Editorial Board of on-line journal "SIMAI e-Lecture Notes" ISSN: 1970-4429, http://seln.simai.eu. In 2008 she was Managing Editor of journal of FIMA (Federazione Italiana di Matematica Applicata) "Matematica e Impresa". From 2009 she is Managing Editor of journal on-line "Communications in Applied and Industrial Mathematics" ISSN: 2038-0909, http://caim.simai.eu. She is editor of Academic Press, World Scientific and referee of IEEE and Elsevier. Her researches have been developed within the activities of Gruppo Nazionale per l'Informatica Matematica (GNIM) of C.N.R. and Gruppo Nazionale per il Calcolo Scientifico (GNCS) dell'Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica (INdAM). Her current research covers image restoration, approximation of experimental data, parallel algorithms, wavelets, signal and image processing with applications to industrial, biomedical and infosecurity problems, with development of relative software.
