2018– oggi "Nationalism, Migration and Citizenship in the Arabic Novels from the Gulf”. Progetto di ricerca iniziato con due anni di ricerca sul campo in Kuwait a gennaio-febbraio 2018 e 2019 ospite di un centro che fa capo al Centro Nazionale Francese per le Ricerche (Centre Français d’Archéologie et de Sciences Sociales – CEFAS – in Kuwait). Il progetto è proseguito con la co-organizzazione del workshop internazionale Migration in the Making of the Gulf Space: Political, Social and Cultural Dimensions (17-19 Dicembre 2019) ospitato e co-finanziato dal Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient di Berlino e dalla Research German Foundation (DFG).
2009–2012 "Arab Modernity and the Novel". Progetto di ricerca avviato con un PRA (Progetto di ricerca di Ateneo) dell’Università di Messina da me coordinato e proseguito con un finanziamento dell’Università di Macerata e dell’University of Sydney per la pubblicazione della monografia di L.Casini, M.E.Paniconi e L.Sorbera Modernità Arabe: nazione, narrazione e nuovi soggetti nel romanzo egiziano, Mesogea 2012.
2009 Partecipazione all’exploratory workshop tenutosi a Berlino: “West reads East. Interdependent Hermeneutics of European and Middle Eastern Literatures”. Il progetto di ricerca è stato finanziato dall’European Science Foundation e coordinato da Stephan Guth.
2007–2008 Borsa post-dottorale “Jean Monnet” finanziata dalla Commissione Europea per un progetto di ricerca individuale su “Occidentalism in Modern Arabic Literature”. Il progetto è stato finanziato attraverso una Fellowship di un anno presso il Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies dell’European University Institute.
2002 Borsa di ricerca per “giovani ricercatori” attraverso cui è stata finanziata la pubblicazione dell’antologia Fuori degli argini. Racconti del 68 egiziano, Edizioni Lavoro, Roma 2003.

PARTICIPATION IN NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH PROJECTS
2019-Today “Migration in the Making of the Gulf Space”. Research project co-coordinated with Antia Mato Bouzas (London Metropolitan University). Part of the project’s activities have been funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Leibniz Zentrum Moderner Orient (ZMO) in Berlin and supported in Kuwait by the Centre Français d’Archéologie et de Sciences Sociales (CEFAS). The first outcome of the project is an edited volume with contributions by scholars from Europe, the United States, the Gulf region and India. The full manuscript is currently under peer-review for Berghahn books.
2009–2012 "Arab modernity and the novel".
