Seminars: THE POLITICAL ECONOMY OF FINANCIALIZATION. TOWARDS A SYMMETRICAL APPROACH TO FINANCIAL GLOBALIZATION

As part of the Erasmus + program with non-European countries, Prof. Tomas Nougues, Assistant researcher at the Instituto de Investigación en Ciencias Sociales (IDICSO / USAL), Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires (Argentina), will hold a series of lectures. The cycle of lessons consists of 4 modules:

  1. The political economy of financialization: Financialization: what is it? A quick guide to financialization studies; Main concepts, approaches and history; Transformations of contemporary capitalism: Globalization, Neoliberalism and Financialization; Measuring financialization: dimensions, indicators and metrics
  2. A symmetrical approach to financialization: Towards a symmetrical approach: financial globalization and the world economy; Analytical coordinates: How to gauge financialization in emerging market economies?; Discussion: What is Italy a case of?
  3. The Welfare State in financial times: Welfare paradigms: Between State, Market & Households; Untangling the welfare-finance nexus: the financialization of social policy in perspective;  Social policies in the spotlight: The financial crack and the welfare systems; Discussion: What is Italy a case of?
  4. Social debtfare policies: The financialization of welfare in Latin-America; Social debtfare policies: an analytical proposal; Case analysis: The financialization of Argentina’s welfare policies

 
Lessons will be held on May 16th, 17th, 23rd and 24th, at 11.40 am, in room 7 of the Department of Economics. Lessons can be followed in streaming in the team classroom "Seminari PhD Economics, Management and Statistics".
