The Ph.D. in Economics, Management and Statistics is a 3-year graduate program organized by the Department of Economics of the University of Messina. The faculty is composed of 39 international experts in Economics, Management, Commodity Science, Mathematics, Econometrics and Statistics. The faculty includes also three Ph.D. honorary members: Prof. Lucrezia Reichlin (London Business School), Prof. Shaker Zahra (University of Minnesota), Dr. Salvatore Ruggeri (Valvitalia Group).
The main research areas of faculty members and Ph.D. students include international economics, economics of growth, applied econometrics, applied mathematics and statistics, financial econometrics, strategic management, environmental economics, public economics, urban economics.
During the first year, students attend four pre-courses, namely Mathematics-Linear Algebra, Statistics, Econometrics and Introductory to STATA and a set of seminars on research methods. Then, students are offered a large number of “short” courses and seminars on a variety of research interests that characterize the research profile of faculty members. Thanks to the international connections of the faculty members, more than a half of the second and third year students choose to spend visiting periods abroad at international universities and research institutions. It is expected that, at the end of the third year, students will conclude their supervised original research work, that will be defended in the final examination.
