Curriculum
Sebastiano Campagna si è laureato in Chimica presso l'Università di Messina (1983). 1985-1988: borsista presso il Laboratorio di Fotochimica del Dipartimento di Chimica "G. Ciamician" dell'Università di Bologna (supervisore: Prof. Vincenzo Balzani).E' stato Funzionario Tecnico, poi Professore Associato e infine ordinario (dal 2002) di Chimica Fisica presso il Dipartimento di Chim. Inorg., Chim. Anal. e Chim. Fis. dell'Università di Messina. Nel 1995 ha ricevuto il "Premio Raffaello Nasini" dalla Divisione di Chimica Inorganica della Società Chimica Italiana. La sua attività di ricerca è rivolta alla progettazione di specie multicomponenti e alla fotofisica di sistemi supramolecolari, con particolare riguardo verso: (i) progettazione di sistemi antenna artificiali per la raccolta di energia solare, (ii) dendrimeri luminescenti e redox-attivi e (iii) processi fotoindotti di trasferimento energetico ed elettronico in sistemi multicomponenti.
E' stato Coordinatore (1998-2003) del progetto europeo TMR-Research "From Molecules to Materials: a Concerted Approach to Nanometer-sized Oligometallic Complexes with Predetermined Configurations and Functions" (ERBFMRX-CT98-0226), comprendente 7 gruppi di ricerca europei ed uno canadese, e principale investigatore in vari progetti COST (action 11, Supramolecular Chemistry, and action 14, Functional Molecular Materials). E' stato responsabile di progetti individuali Marie Curie e principale investigatore in progetti bilaterali Italia-Belgio (comunità francofona) e Italia-Russia. E' stato componente del Management Committee del COST action 35 ("From Molecules to Molecular Devices: Control of Electronic, Photonic, Magnetic and Spintronic Behaviour"), all'interno del quale ha partecipato a due Working Groups. Fa parte del COST-PERSPECT H2O, rivolto alla conversione chimica dell'energia solare. E' stato il Coordinatore del progetto nazionale FIRB-Accordi di Programma 2011 sulla Fotosintesi Artificiale (2012-2015) ed è Presidente (dal 2014) del Centro Interuniversitario per la Conversione Chimica dell'Energia Solare (SOLAR-CHEM). Dal 2017 è il coordinatore di un progetto triennale di Grande Rilevanza del MAECI, riguardante una collaborazione scientifica Italia-Giappone.
E' stato Chairman del XIII International Symposium on Photochemistry and Photophysics of Coordination Compounds (ISPPCC), Lipari, 1999, Chairman del II Mediterranean Meeting on Photochemistry, Giardini-Naxos, 2003, della Faraday Discussion on Supramolecular Photochemistry, Cambridge, UK, 2015, ed ha fatto parte dei comitati scientifici di numerosi altri congressi nazionali ed internazionali.
Presidente del Gruppo Italiano di Fotochimica (2005-2011); Coordinatore del Gruppo Interdivisionale di Fotochimica della Società Chimica Italiana (2005-2011); Associate Editor of the International Journal of Photoenergy (2009-2011); componente dell'Editorial Board del Chemical Physics Letters dal 2013; componente dell'International Scientific Committee dello IUPAC Symposium on Photochemistry (2005 e 2014); componente dell'International Scientific Committee dell'ISPPCC (dal 1999 al 2013), Presidente dell'International Scientific Committee dell'ISPPCC (dal 2013). E' stato Direttore del Dipartimento di Chimica Inorganica, Chimica Analitica e Chimica Fisica dell'Università di Messina dal 2007 al 2012. Dal 2013 è Coordinatore del Dottorato di Ricerca in Scienze Chimiche dell'Università di Messina.
E' autore di oltre 230 lavori scientifici e guest co-editor di un fascicolo del Coord.Chem.Rev. (vol. 208, 2000) e di due fascicoli del Top.Curr.Chem. (vol. 280 e 281, 2007). E' co-editore del volume della Wiley "Designing Dendrimers", pubblicato nel 2012. Ha tenuto, su invito, oltre 80 conferenze in occasione di congressi scientifici (incluse plenarie) o in qualità di ospite presso centri di ricerca nazionali ed internazionali. Ha un h-index (al febbraio 2018) pari a 63 (fonte: Scopus; numero totale di citazioni >17.000).
Curriculum
Sebastiano Campagna obtained his Laurea in Chemistry cum laude from the University of Messina (1983). In the period 1984-1989 he has been research fellow at the University of Bologna (photochemistry group, supervisor: Prof. Vincenzo Balzani).He has been Funzionario Tecnico and Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry at the Department of Inorg., Anal. and Phys. Chemistry of the University of Messina. Since 2002 he is Full Professor of Physical Chemistry in the same University. In 1995 he was awarded the "Raffaello Nasini Prize" by the Inorganic Division of the Società Chimica Italiana. His research activity involves design of multicomponent species and supramolecular photochemistry and photophysics, including artificial antenna systems for light harvesting, luminescent and redox active metal-based dendrimers, and photoinduced energy and electron transfer processes.
He published more than 230 articles in international journals and delivered many talks (more than 80 invited lectures) at scientific meetings or research centers. He has been the guest co-editor of an issue of Coord.Chem.Rev. (2000, vol. 208) and of two issues of Top.Curr.Chem. (2007, vols. 280 and 281). He is co-author of the book "Designing Dendrimers", published by Wiley in 2012. His h-index is 63, according to Scopus, february 2018 (total number of citations over 17,000).
Sebastiano Campagna has been the Coordinator (1998-2003) of the European TMR Research Project "From Molecules to Materials: a Concerted Approach to Nanometer-sized Oligometallic Complexes with Predetermined Configurations and Functions" (Contract no. ERBFMRX-CT98-0226), involving 7 european research groups of 5 different Countries, and principal investigator of several COST projects (Action 11, Supramolecular Chemistry, and Action 14, Functional Molecular Materials). He has also been principal investigator of bilateral scientific and tutorial projects between Italy and the french-speaking community of Belgium (Program: "Antennas") and between Italy and Russia (Program: "Photochemistry"). He has been a member of the Management Committee of COST Action 35 ("From Molecules to Molecular Devices: Control of Electronic, Photonic, Magnetic and Spintronic Behaviour"). Within this Action, he participated to two Working Groups. He is the Coordinator of the Italian FIRB project on Artificial Photosynthesis.
Prof. Campagna has been the Chairman of the XIII International Symposium on Photochemistry and Photophysics of Coordination Compounds (ISPPCC), Lipari, 1999, Chairman of the II Mediterranean Meeting on Photochemistry, Giardini-Naxos, 2003, Chairman of the Faraday Discussion on Supramolecular Photochemistry, Cambridge, UK, 2015, and member of the scientific committees of several other international or national conferences. Chairman of the Gruppo Italiano di Fotochimica (the Italian branch of the European Photochemistry Association) from 2005 to 2011, Coordinator of the Gruppo Interdivisionale di Fotochimica of the Società Chimica Italiana (2005-2011), Associate Editor of the International Journal of Photoenergy (2009-2011), component of the Editorial Board of Chemical Physics Letters (from 2013) and component of the International Scientific Committee of the IUPAC Symposium on Photochemistry (2005-2006 and 2013-2014) and of the International Scientific Committee dell'ISPPCC (from 1999 to 2013). From 2013 he is the Chairman of the International Scientific Committee of ISPPCC. Since 2013 he is the President of the Centro Interuniversitario per la Fotosintesi Artificiale (SOLAR-CHEM). He served as the Chairman of the Department of Inorganic, Analytical and Physical Chemistry of the University of Messina (2007-2012). Since 2013 he is the Director of the Doctorate School in Chemical Sciences at the University of Messina.
