Work Experience:
1986 - 1995:  Partner and Technical Director of the Compagnia Prospezioni Geologiche s.n.c. the company was specialized in geological studies, environmental plans and geognostic and geotechnical surveys.
1995 - 2002:  Researcher at the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Messina.
2002 – now:  Professor of Environmental Geology at the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Messina
2005 – 2014:Coordinator of the Courses of Degree of Management of Territorial Risks (II level degree – 2 years)
2005 – 2019:Coordinator of the Courses of Degree of the University of Messina in Analysis and Management of the Natural and Anthropogenic Risks (I level degree; 3 years)
2014 – now: Director of the Earth Science Laboratory of the University of Messina
2014 – now: Scientific Manager of University Spin Off GEOLOGIS

Activity:
(2018 - now) characterization of the polluted soils in the former industrial area of the “Cittadella” in Messina
(2018) invited speaker at ECOMONDO – Rimini to talk about marine litter and micro plastic
(2017) within the Interreg Italy – Malta Program the project BESS - POCKET BEACH MANAGEMENT & REMOTE SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM has been funded and he is the Lead Partner of the project
(2015) he has published with SPRINGER, the colleagues Andrew Cooper e Derek JacksonfromBelfast University the volume SAND and GRAVEL SPIT (ISBN 978-3-319-13716).
(2015) he has coordinated the start-up study of GEOLOGIS performed in the area of Marinello Spit
(2015) he has realized the Coastal Management Plan for the City of San Vito lo Capo (Italy)
 (2014) he has coordinated the study of coast the archaeological area of Monasterace for the Archaeological Office of Calabria
(2014) he has created an Academic SPIN OFF named GEOLOGIS srl and he is the scientific director
(2013 – 15) he has created the Earth Science Lab, with the following sections: 1) DRONE FLEET equipped with an HD photographic camera, a ADC-Tetracam multi-spectral camera, a Yelloscan laser scanner (LIDAR) and an Optris PI450 termographic camera; 2) Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (like torpedo) equipped with a CTD (Conductibility, Temperature and Depth) device and an Interferometric/Multi Beam Side Scan Sonar; 3) Sedimentological Sectionequipped with a standard ¼  sieves series for coarser material and hydrometers and graduate cylinders for finer sediments.The shape and the composition of granules is analysed by a optical microscope and by a Scanning Electron Microscope SEM; 4) Data Processing Centre equipped with a server and different work stations with the standard GIS and CAD software.
(2013 – 14) he is coordinating the activity of Information System (GIS) of the hydro – morphological plan of the Sicilian Region (northeastern sector). 
(2012-) Supervisor for the Laboratory of Earth Sciences for the CERISI Project, in this framework has been implemented the Lab of Department on Physic and Earth Sciences. He has realized an implementation of the Lab buying a DRONE with aerial photograph camera, LIDAR, thermo camera, spectral camera, a Autonomous Underwater Vehicles with Sub bottom profiler and Side Scan Sonar and an Informatics’ Center.
(2012-13) he is coordinating the activity of seismic micro - zoning of 20 cities in Sicily under a protocol signed by the Regional Department of Civil Protection and the three Sicilian Universities
(2012) he has realized the monitoring of the coastal area for the  Coastal Management Plan for the City of Messina (Italy)
(2012) he was invited to participate from the Italian Foreign Ministry as expert for the study of the Coastal Plan of the City of Beira in Mozambico.
(2010) Named from the President of The Sicily Region as special advisor for the improvement of the Coastal Management Plan of the Sicilian Region
(2009) he is partner of the project eSEC - Competency Based e-portal of Security and Safety Engineering funded in the framework of the ERASMUS program with about 380,000 €.
(2008) he was invited by the committee “La Scienza nel Mezzogiorno dall’Unità d’Italia ad oggi” to show his study about “Rappresentazioni cartografiche ed iconografiche delle linee di costa sulle sponde dello Stretto di Messina”.
(2007) he was invited to chair the round table about “Opzioni e Strategie di Adattamento” in the frame work of the Workshop “Cambiamenti climatici e AMBIENTE MARINO – COSTIERO:  scenari futuri per un programma nazionale di adattamento - Verso la Conferenza Nazionale 2007 sui Cambiamenti Climatici”.
(2006) he was named for the problems related to the coastal erosion in the frame work of the Rete Italiana Coste (RIC) che è il legame nazionale con la rete Europea ENCORA
(2005) Named as expert in ICZM in the commission of Ministry of the Environment for the analysis of the erosion problem in Italy
(2005) Invited to participate at the Technical – Scientific Committee of the Observatory of the Coasts

(2002 – 2003) In the EUROSION funded by EU program is the responsible for the study site of Giardini Naxos in the WP3 and acts as consultant for environmental coastal policy in the WP5
(2002) Named coordinator of the sedimentological and geomorphological monitoring program of the Provence of Ragusa (SE Sicily)
(2001 – 2002) Organized and named coordinator of the Master School in Integrated Coastal Zone Management (MasterGIAC) placed in Syracuse under the control of the University of Messina and the Polo Universitario Sicilia Orientale (private institution)
(2001) Participated at the field work in Thailand studying the coastal evolution of the central sector of the Gulf of Bangkok
(1990 - 2000) Worked in the labs of National Museum of the Natural History of the Smithsonian Institution of Washington D.C. (U.S.A.), to study the evolution of recent and modern Manzala lagoon (Northeastern Egypt), the largest of the four Nile delta lagoon. He studied, at the Smithsonian Institution, also the Rio Grande River Delta (USA) and the Rhone Delta (France) deposits, sampled in situ respectively on 1999 and on 2000.
About Nile Delta he has specifically published an article about Manzala Lagoon on Environmental Geology and he has written his PhD Thesis on the same subject.
(1999) Nominated advisor of the Prefect to manage the waste emergency in the Province of Messina
(1998) Nominated Vice - President of European Union for Coastal Conservation (EUCC)
(1998) Invited from European Commission, Directorate General XI: Environment, Nuclear safety and Civil Protection (Waste Management) as moderator and chairman at the workshop on “harbor dredge spoil” held in Lisbon (5 -7 June, 1998) during the Waste and the Oceans Conference (EXPO’98).
(1998) Completed the first Coastwatch questionnaire involving schools and environmentalist groups
(1996 - 1997) Promoted with the University of Glamorgan (Wales) questionnaire for beach user's to have a better knowledge of the thinking of the people about beach management.
(1996) Involved, as field sedimentologist, in the International Antarctic Project - Cape Roberts.
(1995 - 1997) Performed, budgeted by M.U.R.S.T. (Ministry of University) and C.N.R. (National Council of Research), the study of the lagoon areas of Sicily (Longarini, Vendicari and Tindari) to individuate the morphological evolution (under man pressure) and to suggest a lagoon management approach.
(1995) Participated in the 10^thAntarctic expedition ROSSMIZE (ROSS Sea Marginal Ice Zone Ecology) and sampled sediments wind blown and trapped in the fast ice
(1993 - 1994) Performed the study of the southern littoral of Sicily to characterize the solid load of the rivers and the sedimentation rate of the submerged deltas, the longshore drift and the evolution of the shoreline under the impact of breakwaters and ports.
(1992) participated, budgeted by E.N.E.A. (National Administration for Alternative Energy) aboard the Urania oceanographic ship, in the research in the gulfs of Palermo, Castellammare e Gela.
(1987 - 1989) Published, with Special Project 2 and the Land Conservation Project - the CNR Subproject on "Littoral Dynamics" and then with the program "Dynamics and geo - environmental features of the coastal areas financed with funds from the Ministry of Public Education and the Ministry for University Scientific and Technological Research.
