Francesco Longo is a tenured Senior Assistant Professor for the S.C. 09/H1 - S.S.D. ING/INF-05 at the Engineering Department of the University of Messina.

His main research interests include: analytical modeling and performance analysis, reliability and availability of distributed systems; Grid and Cloud computing; Internet of Things and Fog/Edge computing; Blockchain technologies with applications in Smart Cities. He is a co-author of more than 100 articles in international journals and conferences. He is a member of the Program Committees and Organizing Committees of numerous international conferences and of the Editorial Board of "International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks", Hindawi and of "Future Generation Computer System", Elsevier. He has collaborated and collaborates in numerous national and international projects.

Since 2010, he has held a constant teaching activity at the University of Messina in courses related to the SSD ING-INF/05 and INF/01. He is a co-funder of the innovative startup SmartMe.IO S.r.l., an academic spin-off of the University of Messina.
