Curriculum

Dario Bruneo si è laureato in Ingegneria Informatica presso l'Università degli Studi di Palermo (Italia) nel 2000. Dal 2001 al 2002 ha lavorato come ricercatore presso il Laboratorio di Ricerca e Sviluppo di Engineering Ingegneria Informatica (S.p.A). Nel 2005 ha conseguito il dottorato di ricerca. in “Tecnologie Avanzate per l'Ingegneria dell'Informazione” presso l'Università degli Studi di Messina (Italia) Attualmente è Professore Associato presso il Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Università degli Studi di Messina.
L'attività di ricerca di Dario Bruneo è stata focalizzata sullo studio dei sistemi distribuiti con particolare riguardo alla gestione della fornitura di servizi avanzati, all'uso di formalismi di modellazione analitica e all'indagine di tecniche di valutazione delle prestazioni. Sono stati studiati diversi campi di ricerca che vanno dalle reti ad-hoc e di sensori ai paradigmi di Grid e Cloud computing. Recentemente, la sua attività di ricerca è focalizzata sulla tecnologia Internet of Things (IoT) e la sua integrazione in scenari Smart Environment e Smart City, sui paradigmi di Edge e Fog computing oltre che sullo studio delle tecniche di machine learning, in particolare deep learning, e le loro applicazioni nei sistemi cyber-fisici. È uno dei progettisti e sviluppatori del framework Stack4Things (http://stack4things.unime.it) un framework IoT basato su OpenStack sviluppato dal Mobile and Distributed Systems Lab (MDSLab) dell'Università di Messina.

È coautore di oltre 100 articoli scientifici pubblicati su prestigiose riviste e riviste internazionali (IEEE Transactions on Computer, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, Elsevier Computer Networks, IEEE Computer) e workshop internazionali e conferenze.
L'attività di ricerca di Dario Bruneo è stata condotta nell'ambito di diversi progetti collaborando con ricercatori nazionali ed internazionali. Tra le collaborazioni scientifiche nazionali e internazionali spiccano la Duke University (USA), l'Università di Kazan (Russia), la National Technical University of Athens (Grecia), l'IIIT- AllaHabad (India), la Missouri University of Scienza e tecnologia (USA).

È co-fondatore della società SmartMe.io s.r.l. (http://smartme.io), società spin-off dell'Università degli Studi di Messina la cui missione è progettare e implementare prodotti che combinano tecnologie IoT open source e a basso costo con tecnologie Cloud basate su OpenStack e soluzioni AI per fornire soluzioni best-in-class per Metering, Devices and Fleet Management, Monitoring, Crowdsensing e altri aspetti relativi agli ambienti intelligenti.

    Curriculum

    Dario Bruneo received the degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Palermo (Italy) in 2000. From 2001 to 2002 he worked as a researcher at the Research and Development Laboratory of the Engineering Ingegneria Informatica (S.p.A). In 2005 he received the Ph.D. in “Advanced Technologies for Information Engineering” at the University of Messina (Italy). He is currently an Associate Professor at the Department of Engineering of the University of Messina.
    The research activity of Dario Bruneo has been focused on the study of distributed systems with particular regards to the management of advanced service provisioning, to the use of analytical modeling formalisms and to the investigation of performance evaluation techniques. Different research fields have been investigated ranging from ad-hoc and sensor networks to Grid and Cloud computing paradigms. Recently, his research activity is focused on the Internet of Things (IoT) technology and its integration in Smart Environment and Smart City scenarios, on the Edge and Fog computing paradigms as well as on the study of machine learning techniques, in particular deep learning, and their applications in cyber physical systems. He is also one of the designer and developer of the Stack4Things framework (http://stack4things.unime.it) an OpenStack-based IoT framework developed by the Mobile and Distributed Systems Lab (MDSLab) at the University of Messina. 
     
    He is co-author of 100+ scientific papers published in prestigious international journals and magazines (IEEE Transactions on Computer, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, Elsevier Computer Networks, IEEE Computer) and international workshop and conferences. 
    The research activity of Dario Bruneo has been conducted within several projects by collaborating with national and international researchers. Among the national and international scientific collaborations the ones who stand out are the Duke University (USA), the University of Kazan (Russia), the National Technical University of Athens (Greece), the IIIT- AllaHabad (India), the Missouri University of Science and Technology (USA).
     
    He is co-founder of the company SmartMe.io s.r.l. (http://smartme.io), a spin-off company of the University of Messina whose mission is to design and implement products combining open source and low-cost IoT technologies with OpenStack-based Cloud technologies and AI solutions for providing best-in-class solutions for Metering, Devices and Fleet Management, Monitoring, Crowdsensing and other aspects related to Smart Environments.
