Acquisire una conoscenza avanzata dei generi letterari della poesia, del teatro e della narrativa nei loro sviluppi diacronici e nelle loro specificità formali e tematiche, anche alla luce del repertorio simbolico della cultura europea, in modo da poter essere in grado, attraverso metodologie avanzate d’indagine, di condurre un’analisi tematica specializzata di un testo letterario, sviluppando uno spirito critico che permetta di interpretare autonomamente le costanti e le varianti tematiche e stilistiche di un testo letterario.

Learning Goals

Acquiring an advanced knowledge of the development and the specific thematic and formal issues of the literary genres (poetry, drama and fiction), also within the context of the European symbolic repertoire, in order to be able to perform an in-depth analysis of a literary text, through advanced analytical methods, thus developing the necessary critical spirit which may allow an autonomous interpretation of the constant themes and stylistic issues of a literary text and their variations.

Per essere in grado di affrontare i testi contenuti del corso di Letteratura Inglese, si dovrà dimostrare di possedere un livello equivalente a B2 secondo il Quadro Comune Europeo di Riferimento per le Lingue (QCER).

Prerequisites

In order to be able to deal with the texts included in the English Literature course, the students will have to show their mastery of a level of English equivalent to B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

L’esame è orale e verterà sulla storia della letteratura inglese dalle origini al Preromanticismo, con lettura, traduzione e commento di brani scelti. Saranno valutati: la conoscenza della storia della letteratura inglese, la capacità espositiva e la proprietà di linguaggio, il livello di comprensione e capacità di commentare i testi in programma.

Assessment

Interview on the history of English literature from the beginning to the Pre-Romantic age. Reading, translation and discussion of selected passages, in which the student will demonstrate: knowledge of the history of English literature, clarity of expression, use of the appropriate language, level of comprehension and ability to comment upon the texts included in the programme.

Il corso verte sulla storia della letteratura inglese dalle origini al Preromanticismo, soffermandosi sulle istanze socio-culturali particolarmente rilevanti del periodo in oggetto e sui testi letterari più rappresentativi e sarà integrato da forme di attività complementari sotto forma di lettorato, tenuto dal prof. Simon Tanner.

The course deals with the history of English literature from the beginning to the Pre-Romantic age, focusing on the most relevant socio-cultural issues of that period and the most representative literary texts and will be complemented by language tutoring activities, held by prof. Simon Tanner.
