Verifiche dell’apprendimento Esame orale in lingua inglese. Due settimane prima dell’esame orale, il candidato deve presentare un elaborato in lingua inglese, di dodici cartelle, Times New Roman, 14 per il testo, 12 per le note e le citazioni superiori alle tre righe, interlinea 1,5, avente per oggetto l’analisi di una delle opere contenute nel programma.

Assessment Oral exam. Two weeks before the exam, delivery of a 12-page short essay discussing one of the literary works contained in the syllabus (text: Times New Roman 14, footnotes and quotations: Times New Roman 12)

Programma del Corso

Il corso si suddivide in tre parti: la prima è dedicata al teatro, la seconda alla poesia, la terza alla prosa. 1) Teatro. William Shakespeare e la sua eredità. Partendo dall’analisi approfondita di alcune delle opere principali di William Shakespeare, si passerà allo studio del loro impatto sulla cultura inglese ed europea, non solo nel campo del teatro, ma anche in quello della letteratura in genere e delle arti. 2) Poesia. Amore e morte nell’Ottocento inglese Saranno analizzate alcune delle poesie più significative dell’Ottocento, insieme alle problematiche sociali, culturali e ideologiche che accompagnano questo tema nella cultura vittoriana. 3) Prosa. L’impatto della realtà socio-culturale sui romanzi canonici. In particolare, in questa sezione, si approfondiranno le problematiche storico-sociali dell’Inghilterra otto e novecentesca nel loro riflettersi sulla produzione letteraria.

Course Syllabus

Course Syllabus The course is divided into three sections: drama, poetry, prose. 1) Drama. William Shakespeare and his influence. Analysis of some of the main works of William Shakespeare and their influence on the English and European culture, in drama, literature and the arts. 2) Poetry. Love and death in nineteenth-century English literature. Analysis of some of the main nineteenth-century poems, together with the relevant social, cultural and ideological issues connected to the theme. 3) Fiction. Social and cultural issues in the English novel. Analysis of the historical and social issues in the Victorian and twentieth-century novel.
