Descrizione: Il corso intende esaminare lo “American English” inquadrandone le problematiche nella prospettiva di un “branch development” della lingua inglese che, in poco più di due secoli di evoluzione, giunge a porsi quale strumento di identificazione di un popolo e di diffusione di una cultura. Quest’ultima, fin dagli inizi unitaria sul piano dei valori ideologici fondanti (ovvero “nazionali”), risulta “conservativa” e “individualista” nei termini dell’appartenenza etnica. La lingua ne riflette la multipolarità dinamica e ne sintetizza gli esiti. Obiettivi: • le variazioni linguistiche fondanti dello “American English” per quanto concerne il piano della pronuncia, della morfologia, della sintassi, della semantica; • le variazioni linguistiche dello “American English” in funzione dell’appartenenza regionale e sociale

Learning Goals

Description: The course aims at examining the "American English" enshrining its issues within the perspective of a "development branch" of the English language, which, in less than two centuries of evolution, becomes a tool for the identification of a people and the dissemination of a culture. The latter, unitary from the beginning in terms of fundamental ideological (or "national") values, was "conservative" and "individualist" in terms of ethnicity. The language reflects its dynamic multipolarities and synthesizes the consequent results. Objectives: â¢ the founding linguistic variations of the "American English" with regard to the level of pronunciation, morphology, syntax, semantics; â¢ the linguistic variations of the "American English" as a function of regional and social group belonging.

Colloquio orale. Sarà stimolata la progettazione di autonomi percorsi di ricostruzione/interpretazione che, esaltando la funzione di tutoring, consentiranno al singolo studente di presentare i risultati del proprio lavoro e confrontarsi difendendo le proprie scelte sotto il profilo dei contenuti e degli strumenti di analisi adottati. E’ richiesta la stesura di un “paper” (estensione media 15/20 cartelle) su argomento preventivamente concordato con il docente.

Assessment

Oral examination. We will stimulate the design of autonomous ways of reading / interpretation, enhancing the tutoring function. Students will enjoy the privilege to present in the form of "papers" the results of their work and discuss them, defending their choices in terms of contents and adopted tools of analysis. They will be required to write a "paper" (average size 15/20 pages) on a topic agreed to in advance with the teacher.
