Obiettivi Formativi

Obiettivo del corso è quello di sviluppare l’immaginario come una prospettiva analitica rivolta alla comprensione dei processi di significazione che producono e trasformano il mondo globale. A tal fine, gli studenti verranno introdotti alle principali teorie di questa prospettiva al fine di liberare l’immaginario dalla dicotomia che la vede opposta al reale ma, al contrario, come la sorgente della costruzione sociale della realtà. A partire da questo quadro teorico, il corso si focalizzerà sui fenomeni collettivi prodotti dall’ibridazione tra sistemi tecnici e sfera simbolica.

Learning Goals

The course aim to developing the imaginary as an analytical perspective to understanding the social meaning making process that produces and changes global world. To this end, students will be introduced to the principal theories of this perspective in order to free the imaginary of the weight of its supposed opposition to reality but, as the contrary, the source of the social construction of reality. Starting from this theoretical framework, the course will focus on the social phenomena produced by the hybridization between technical systems and symbolic sphere.

Programma del Corso

Il corso intende fornire allo studente una cartografia delle vie sociali dell’immaginario al fine di comprendere i processi di costruzione del senso sociale che producono e mutano il mondo globale. A tal fine, la prima parte del corso sarà dedicata alla comprensione delle principali teorie sociali orientate a liberare l’immaginario dal peso della dicotomia che la vede opposta al reale. A partire da questo quadro teorico, infatti, l’immaginario verrà inteso come una sfera di senso che avvolge la mente di ciascun individuo; una sfera, a lui precostituita dal mondo sociale fin dalla nascita, che ridefinisce la natura non specializzata del suo corpo attraverso le protesi mentali (segni, simboli, narrazioni, teorie, stereotipi, ecc.) e fisiche (oggetti, strumenti, forme organizzative, tecnologie) con cui abita il mondo. Questa dimensione non può che essere socialmente e storicamente determinata, mai data una volta per tutte e in continuo e inarrestabile movimento. Il suo carattere sociale, avvolgendo la vita individuale come quella collettiva, ha inoltre la capacità di rendere invisibile il suo carattere di artificio e, di converso, far emergere la visibilità di quel mondo in comune che quotidianamente chiamiamo “realtà”. È in esso che l’azione reciproca dà luogo allo scambio sociale con il quale la sfera dell’immaginario viene generata, istituita, differenziata ed anche trasformata. Attraverso questa prospettiva analitica, il corso si focalizzerà in particolare sui fenomeni collettivi prodotti dall’ibridazione tra la sfera immaginativa con i sistemi tecnici per comprendere, nella seconda parte del corso, come l’umano e il sociale stiano mutando nel contesto del mondo globale.

Course Syllabus

The course intends to provides students a map tracing the social routes of the imaginary in order to understanding the meaning making process that produces and changes global world. For this purpose, the first part of teaching program will be dedicated to the social theories oriented to free the imaginary of the weight of its supposed opposition to reality but, as the contrary, the source of the social construction of reality. Starting from this theoretical framework, in fact, We will see as imaginary, step by step along the socialization process, creates a sphere of sense around the mind of each individual: pre-constituted for him since birth by the social world, a sphere that redefines the non-specialized nature of his body through prostheses, both mental (signs, symbols, narratives, theories, stereotypes etc.) and physical (objects, instruments, forms of organization, technologies) by means of which he inhabits the world. This dimension can only be determined socially and historically, never granted once and for all and in continuous, unstoppable movement. Its social nature, enveloping individual life just as it does collective life, has moreover the capacity to render invisible its artificial character while rendering visible that world in common which we daily refer to as “reality”. It is therein that reciprocal action gives place to social exchange with which the sphere of the imaginary is generated, instituted, differentiated and even transformed. Understood in this way, the imaginative dimension is no longer a place of the unreal, as the west in its subconscious has codified and segregated it, but more of a common place built by acting – with, against, on behalf of the other – within which men find their own place in the world. In short, therefore, we could define the imaginary as that field of signification that serves as a matrix for the social construction of reality. Through this analytical perspective, the course will focus on the social phenomena produced by the hybridization between the imaginary sphere and technical systems in order to understand how human and society are changing in global society.
