Obiettivi Formativi

Acquisizione delle nozioni relative alla formazione dellinglese standard, delle varietà della lingua inglese, e in particolare del linguaggio giornalistico. Acquisizione della competenza metalinguistica relativa ai processi di formazione del lessico inglese (morfologia e semantica) e alluso delle strutture morfologiche. Acquisizione del livello di competenza linguistica B1 del Quadro Comune Europeo di Riferimento (QCER).

Learning Goals

The course encourages students awareness and critical thinking about the complexity of the English language through an historical perspective until the present day. At the end of the course students will become familiar with the English language morphological, syntactical and phonetic structures and will acquire a B1 level of competence, as required by the European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Programma del Corso

Il corso si propone lo studio della lingua inglese secondo una prospettiva sincronica per esaminare i rapporti tra la lingua standard da un lato, le varietà della lingua inglese e la diffusione dellinglese come lingua franca sulla base di approcci teorici che considerano la lingua come un fenomeno in continua evoluzione. Il modulo preparerà inoltre gli studenti alla lettura di testi giornalistici, e non, scritti sia in varietà di inglese nativo sia non-native. Le lezioni si svolgono in lingua inglese.

Course Syllabus

The course focuses on the English language from a synchronic perspective to examine the relationship between standard English on the one hand, and varieties of English, and the spread of English as a Lingua Franca in a globalized world according to socio-linguistic approaches which view languages as constantly changing phenomena. The module will also introduce students to the analysis of texts written in native and non-native English, including articles from newspapers. Lessons will be held in English.
