Obiettivi Formativi

Il corso consta di 2 crediti formativi per un equivalente di 24 ore di lezioni in modalità e-learning. Il programma sarà improntato al ripasso delle funzioni linguistiche e strutture grammaticali e all’introduzione del linguaggio attinente alla microlingua medico-scientifica. Obiettivi del corso sono i seguenti: fornire, con l'ausilio di esercitazioni, le basi per sviluppare una conoscenza di livello intermedio alto B1/B2 della lingua inglese nonché la terminologia relativa al linguaggio medico scientifico. Per il raggiungimento dei suddetti obiettivi è indispensabile la frequenza al corso. Il livello di partenza sarà quello B1 / B2 secondo il Common European Framework (CEFR) deciso dal Consiglio d’Europa e relativo alle lingue straniere. La conoscenza della lingua inglese pari al livello B1 /B2 si rende necessaria dato che i programmi curricolari della scuola secondaria inferiore e superiore prevedono lo studio di detta lingua straniera. Coloro i quali per qualche ragione non l’hanno mai studiata o l’hanno studiata male dovranno recuperare le loro mancate conoscenze. La parte relativa all’inglese medico scientifico mira a far acquisire agli studenti una conoscenza di base dell’inglese medico-scientifico attraverso letture mirate ed esercizi di comprensione. Tale corso verterà su argomenti inerenti l’inglese scientifico nonché sulle principali regole grammaticali e sintattiche che possano consentire la formulazione di frasi grammaticalmente corrette e la comprensione e relativa traduzione di qualsiasi testo attinente al linguaggio specifico della materia.

Learning Goals

The course consists of 2 credits for an equivalent of 24 hours of instruction in e-learning mode. The program will be based on the review of the linguistic aspects and grammatical structures and the introduction of language pertaining to medical and scientific fields. The course objectives are as follows: Providing, with the help of tutorials, the basics to develop a knowledge of English at upper intermediate level B1/B2 and the medical and scientific language terminology. In order to achieve those goals it is essential online attendance. The start level will be upper intermediate (B1/B2) according to the Common European Framework (CEFR) decided by the Council of Europe and its foreign languages. English proficiency equivalent to upper intermediate level B1/B2 is necessary since the lower and upper secondary school curriculum programs include the study of that language. Those who, for some reasons, have never studied English or have a poor knowledge of English must overcome any potential shortcomings in that area. The part concerning medical English aims at making students acquire a basic knowledge of the medical scientific English through targeted and reading comprehension exercises. This course will focus on topics related to the scientific English and the main rules of grammar and syntax that would allow the formulation of grammatically correct sentences and understanding and its translation of any text related to the specific language.

Approccio comunicativo - Metodo nozionale-funzionale, situazionale per la parte concernente lo studio della lingua inglese; programma multimediale in modalità e-learning su piattaforma Moodle. Metodo grammaticale-traduttivo per la parte concernente l'inglese medico-scientifico.

Teaching Methods

Notional-functional-communicative approach. Situational method for the part concerning the study of English; multimedia e-learning program on the Moodle platform. Grammar-translation method for the part concerning medical scientific English.

Livello iniziale richiesto B1 del Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Verifiche dell'apprendimento

Per l’esame finale di lingua inglese, gli studenti dovranno sostenere un test a scelta multipla attraverso il quale sarà valutata non solo la competenza relativa alla parte scientifica ma anche quella concernente la parte grammaticale. Durante la visione dell'elaborato allo studente saranno poste delle domande sugli stessi argomenti, in cui sarà valutata la fluency e l’accuracy del candidato. Detta prova potrà essere effettuata solo dopo il superamento del test scritto.

Assessment

For the final exam in English language, students will have to carry out a multiple choice test through which not only competence concerning scientific English but also grammar knowledge will be assessed . After passing the written test students may also be asked questions on the same subjects, in which fluency and accuracy of the candidate will be assessed. Such assessment will be carried out only after passing the written test.
